The official and historic Bristol Fourth of July Celebration—known as the Patriotic Exercises—was established in 1785 by Rev. Henry Wight of the First Congregational Church, a Veteran of the Revolutionary War. The Celebration officially begins on Flag Day, June 14, and continues for several weeks with a full calendar of community events, including free outdoor concerts, the Orange Crate Derby races, a Firefighter’s Muster, the elegant Fourth of July Ball, and many other festive activities. The Celebration reaches its grand finale on July 4th with the Military, Civic, and Firemen’s Parade, witnessed by more than 200,000 spectators from Rhode Island and around the world. Join us in making history—once again—as we celebrate 250 years of American independence and 241 years of continuous Bristol tradition.
